Irish History Simplified (5th and 6th)

Over the past few weeks leading up to Easter we have been learning a lot about Irish political history in my classroom. Usually 5th class in my school focus mainly on events in the 16th, 17th and 18th century, however, being the year that's in it, we also touched on 1916 this year.
Irish history is always a popular topic in a senior class although sometimes confusing! Therefore, for the purpose of revision, I have created these posters featuring key information about each era we discussed. I hope you find them useful in your classroom!

As usual, you can download the posters/PowerPoint from Slideshare here by logging in as a member (it's free!). Alternatively, you can download the file from Dropbox here

P.S. If you are interested in a full timeline of topics covered in history in a senior class, you can download one from Slideshare here

Happy Easter!

Free Timeline of History Topics for a Senior Classroom

It can be difficult to find free timelines online that are suitable for an Irish classroom. Often they are based on the British or American curriculum or are lacking in pictures and clear information. As a result, over the past few years I have been teaching in 3rd, 4th and 5th class classrooms, I have created my own timeline for my History wall and have found it extremely useful.
Personally, I prefer my timeline to be simple, colourful and eye catching so that the children’s memories can be easily jogged when they look at it on the wall or when I refer to it in lessons. It features pictures of key events, architecture, people, maps and other things that were a major part of the era.
If you are interested in downloading this document, you can do so here or here. This PowerPoint is by no means a complete compilation of all of the topics on the History curriculum, however I have tried my best to include as wide a range of subjects as possible. Also, if you download it, you can then edit or add to it to suit your own needs!

Note: You may notice that I have not included any Irish political History topics in this timeline, as I will be devoting a future post to this topic soon.
